Paying lawyers by the hour? There are other options

Your lawyer bills by the hour and probably in six-minute increments to boot. Is that the most efficient way of paying for legal services? And how can you broach alternatives with your legal services provider without getting her all riled up? That’s the topic of the August 2011 Legal Eagles, Why Paying By The Hour Isn’t Always Best (Alberta Venture).

Featuring James Casey, managing partner of regional law firm Field Law LLP and Alan McConnell, managing partner of Calgary’s Burstall Winger LLP.

This is a topic near and dear to Jim Casey’s heart, and I speak with him on it again, albeit less directly, when we discuss the past, present and future of mid-sized regional law firms [add link] and partner compensation.
